DIY Solar Panels – Yes, You Can

Is it time to add DIY solar panels to your list of things to do? If you are tired of paying someone else for the resources that you can obtain free every day, then perhaps it is time to get motivated and get building. The sun is free, we can count on it every day and it is available just about everywhere.

DIY solar panels can include those you make yourself from scratch or from a kit. If you choose to build the panels yourself, you can with items that you may already have in the garage or shed. I doubt though that you will have solar cells, so you will need to buy these. It is suggested that you can buy broken ones and fix them; however, if you don’t feel comfortable doing this then I suggest that you buy new ones.

You can also obtain DIY solar panels in a kit. This is the option that many choose because a typical kit will include all of the items you may need excluding tools. Before buying any kit, there are some things that you should consider. Things such as quality, durability, and if there are any “extras” that you will need that are not included in the kit. You certainly wouldn’t want to be just about completed with the build and realize that you are missing some very important items to complete the project.

Upon deciding that solar panels are going on the “to do” list, first and foremost you can complete the project successfully. You do need to consider the placement of the panels and how the panels will be installed. In addition, you need to determine how much power you expect the panels to provide and in turn how many panels will you need? There are a number of different types of kits that include various solar panels.

Choose DIY solar panels that have the best solar technology, that are easy to clean and maintain and solar panels that have a warranty too. Choose solar panels that are built by a reputable company and if you have any questions, a toll free number should be available to ask any question that you may have.

DIY projects are not meant to be difficult. There are meant to be done by the homeowner who has the capabilities to use power tools, to consider alternatives if issues arise or even to know when to call in a professional. Many DIY projects are small and some are big. Adding solar panels to your home is a big job but as long as you take all precautionary steps, use the proper tools and equipment and follow the manufacturer’s instructions, you shouldn’t have any problems.

You can do any DIY project you set your mind too. Reducing your electric bill is something that everybody would love to do; however, not everyone feels capable of taking on such a large project. If you are able to handle any DIY project and want to reduce your utility bills, then please add DIY solar panels to the top of your things to do list.

Learning how to make solar panels isn’t that difficult. Of course, you need to have the proper knowledge and the right tools. Education, planning and proper execution will result is solar panels that will provide relief to your utility bills.

It is true that you can learn how to make solar panels with a few simple items. Well, it is simple if you do some research, obtain quality materials and don’t stress while you put the system together. Here is a list of things you will need to gather together before you start:

• Solar cells, preferably pre-tabbed
• Lumber
• Plexiglass
• Soldering iron and solder
• Wire and wire cutters
• Diode
• Flux pen
• Silicone caulk, preferably waterproof
• Drill, screwdriver

First – Layout the solar cells that you purchased in an orderly manner; this layout or pattern is how the cells will look when the panels are finished.

Second – Cut a piece of plywood that is the same size as the layout of the solar cells. At this time, you could apply a coat of UV protective varnish to protect the wood.

Third – Connect the solar cells together using their connector strips and the Flux pen.

Fourth – Attach the solar cells to the inside of the solar box with the caulk.

Fifth – Drill a hole through the plywood to allow the solar cells leads out; then caulk the hole closed.

Sixth – Build a simple frame/box to hold the plywood with the cells. Include a small lip to hold the plexiglass cover. Use the UV varnish on this material as well.

Seventh – Drill pilot holes in the plexiglass and screw to the box; or you can secure the plexiglass to the box with a strong adhesive. At this time, also secure the sheet of plywood holding the cells to the inside of the box.

You have just learned how to make solar panels with a few basic items that you may already have in the garage; except for maybe the solar cells. Of course, you can make solar panels from kits too but those are more costly but just about everything you need is included. If you have most of the items required already at home, why not make one from scratch?

If you want to know how to make solar panels that will take a larger portion of your home off the grid, you will need to determine how much you want the solar panels to power and then you can determine how many solar panels of a particular wattage you will need. There are a number of great estimating calculators on the Internet that you can use to determine the number of panels and batteries that you will need.

If you are just building one or two to warm the pool, to work the water fountain or power the microwave, the process is much simpler and doesn’t take as long. However, if you want to utilize the sun’s power for your entire home, you will need to consider higher quality products to ensure that your new system will be long lasting. It’s your home and isn’t it worth it to know how to make solar panels?

Wind power as a viable source of energy

Since the cost of power and fossil fuels have continued to be on the rise all over the world, it has become increasingly expedient that alternative sources of power generation be discovered and developed. Wind power is increasingly becoming such an alternative.

Fossil fuels have been the center of attention for the better part of the last century. Shortages of this resource have led to conflicts and wars all across the globe and this will only increase in intensity as all evidence points to the inevitable conclusion that the world’s supplies are dwindling, and dwindling at a fast rate.

Everyone who pays power and utility bills will have noticed the steady increase in the cost of supplying a home with power. It’s now necessary to find alternative sources to save households money and indeed to provide the planet with cheaper, cleaner and more efficient means of powering industries and the global economy.

Wind power has been in use through some of the earliest times in human history. Wind mills are known to have been used to pump water for irrigation through the vertical axis system from around 500 to 900 AD in ancient Persia. Since then wind power has also been used in mills in Europe from about the early 1300s till about the late 1800s.

Over this period of time improvements were made to improve the efficiency of its use and up till now improvements have kept on taking place. All these modifications and advances in technology have eventually made way for today’s more efficient and more compact wind power systems that can be used to supply power to individual homes.

Present day fluctuations in the cost of energy have made it every home owner’s dream to be off the power grid, while that might have seemed impossible a while ago, it’s now very much a reality. Advances in technology made it possible to have relatively low cost, high output yet compact wind power systems.

Wind farms in California are more recent results of government development programs done in an effort to find more viable means of energy. It’s even possible to build your own private wind power generator all by yourself just by buying and putting together a few readily available materials.

There are many DIY manuals that will present detailed step by step guides to building your working wind generator. It would be advisable to search for some reviews before making a decision on which manual to buy as there are many to choose from. The key things to look out for on the reviews are which manuals are more detailed and the track record of the writer of the manual.

A writer with proven expertise at successfully building wind power generators is advisable because at least you’ll be sure of following a successful and proven model. There are some things you do have to watch out for before installing a wind powered generator. The area where the generator is to be installed has to get enough wind; obviously this is critical to the success of the installation. If you live in a planned area with building codes, it will probably be necessary to check if such an installation is allowed by the building authorities.

Ultimately the biggest benefit of wind power is that it has absolutely no pollution attached to its use and is completely green. This is a factor that is increasingly important when finding the next source of energy for use worldwide.

Home Made Solar Panels – One Extremely Simple Project

Should you make home made solar panels? Why not? With the right products, a solid plan and some patience and ingenuity you can build your own. Many people are turning to other methods to obtain electricity and warm water but at a lot lower costs.

This article will review how to build extremely simple home made solar panels. This project is just for beginners and great for learning about the process and getting geared up for a larger project. The total cost should be less $150.00 and result in between 18 to 20 volts. To get you started, the tools you will need are:

• Saw
• Drill
• Screwdriver
• Silicone caulk (preferably waterproof)
• Wood glue
• Wood, fiberboard (to make frame)
• Wire cutters
• Wire strippers
• Soldering iron
• Solder
• Solar cells (for this project 36 3×6 pre-tabbed cells)
• Plexiglas/Lexan (to enclose cells inside box)
• Diode or charge controller (optional)
• Voltmeter

The container – Just as an FYI, a standard 3×6 inch solar cell can generate about 0.5 volts and approximately 3.5 amps. Are you ready to make some home made solar panels? First you need to lay out your cells and determine the size of box you need. Next is to build the box to hold the cells. Wood is probably the material you have available and it’s relatively cheap to buy if you need to get some. Include holes in the back for the wiring to be pushed through. Build a solid box to hold the cells and then cut a piece of Plexiglas to enclose the box.

Wire the cells – If you haven’t purchased pre-tabbed cells, you will need to solder them together before gluing them down onto a piece of fiberboard that will eventually be attached to the inside of the box. Adding a diode will prevent the loss of power that has been captured during the day until they are needed. If you choose to use a charge controller, a diode isn’t necessary.

Attaching the cells – This step in making your own home made solar panels is one step closer to the final product. In this step, secure the cells in place on the backboard inside the frame. Silicone caulk works best for this application. All you need to apply is one dot of caulk in the middle of the back of each cell. This will allow the wood to expand without harming the cell. Place the cells on the fiberboard in the layout that you originally decided upon and then glue in place. Allow the caulk to set.

Finishing up – Gently push the wires through the hole of the frame and then add caulk into the hole to keep moisture out. Glue the fiberboard into the container with the wires coming through the main box. Glue and carefully screw the Plexiglas onto the top to secure the cells inside the container. Solder a connector to the wire ends; the type of connecter will depend upon what you will connect your home made solar panels too.

Test – Last but not least, you should test the panels before the final finish. Take the box outside into direct sunlight. Attach the voltmeter and check the voltage. The reading should be around 19 volts, give or take a volt.

This is a super easy, super inexpensive project to provide power to run a small appliance. Wasn’t that fun to build your own home made solar panels?

Build Your Own Solar Panels with a Kit – Some Guide Lines to Know

It is time to get started and build your own solar panels. Don’t think that you can’t because you can. Having extra money in your pocket while using a free resource are two huge reasons why you should and why you can. By obtaining useful and helpful information, some guidance and perhaps some patience too you can accomplish this unique and beneficial task.

When things have already been gathered together and provided to you in one group along with directions, it makes any task super easy. I am referring to a kit that you can build your own solar panels with. A kit will include just about everything you need to build and install the solar panels except for any tools or other items such as adhesive or additional features that you may want to add.

When looking for kit to buy, beware that there are a number of companies out there who are in it to make a buck and that’s it. Be sure that the company is reputable, offers customer service and a money back guarantee and a warranty. It is also very beneficial if the company has an excellent question and answer section to review and/or they have a toll free telephone number that you can call and ask questions about what you want, need and get answers to any other questions that you may have. What are some other points to consider?

How many panels will you need?

Which brand provides the highest efficiency rating?

What technology will last the longest?

Will you need an inverter and if so what type?

Will you need a charge controller?

What type of wiring is needed for the system?

Will you need batteries and will they be liquid cell or sealed?

A kit is great to use when you build your own solar panels. Everything is handy and ready to go. There may be some assembling required that the company couldn’t do, but typically these steps are very easy for any do it yourself-er can do.

Kits are available in different wattage’s. This makes it easy for you; you just need to know how much you want to use “off the grid”. Some companies offer kits in 20Watt to 320Watts. Kits should come with enough solar cells, wire to complete connections, a blocking diode and possibly a Flux pen. You should also receive mounting hardware and possibly an inverter.

Of course, you can buy a kit for more than just your home. You can buy kits to build your own solar panels for your boat and RV too. Why just use the solar benefits for your home when you can use them while you are out enjoying nature at her fullest? Perhaps if you are not sure about building a larger system, try building one that is for a water fountain or for lights that brighten your walkways at night or maybe even your pool.

With the cost of utilities increasing and the damage that is being done to our planet, going off the grid as much as possible is a goal for many people today. You can build your own solar panels with some knowledge, guidance and a great kit.

Solar Energy: How It Can Help The World Today

Solar energy is very important especially in our current day and age. The world is currently in crisis due to lack of enough energy and it can cause devastating consequences in the near future. Our environment hangs on a balance due to pollution, overpopulation and other drastic changes that is causing it to heat up than normal.

If we keep at this pace for a few more years then we might be looking at a devastating future for us and the generations to come. This is why a lot of people are looking into harnessing the natural energy from the sun. Solar energy has been a great topic even in the early times. Did you know that Da Vinci actually predicted solar industrialization in 1477?

This type of energy comes from our ultimate energy source: The Sun. Even during cloudy days, sunlight is able to penetrate the clouds thus warming us in the process. There are a lot of environmentalists and scientists who are urging people to look at the benefits of solar energy for their homes, offices, lives and pockets. Here are some of the benefits that you can gain from using solar energy.

Top Three Advantages Of Solar Energy:

1. Great Savings

It is a known fact that building your own solar panels to harness energy from the sun is quite expensive. This is true, but have you thought about the savings that you can get in the near future? Once you set up your space with the right solar panels to power it during the evening, you won’t be needing electricity for awhile. The solar panels gather energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. You have your very own energy source that can help you save money on electric bills every single month.

2. A Great Contribution To The Environment

Did you know that solar electricity produces not harmful gas emission and make no devastating mark on the environment? Solar energy can help us reverse the effects of pollution and the damages it is causing our planet. You may have noticed that our climate seems to be shifting erratically and rapidly. Global warming is what our planet is facing due to pollution made by mankind. Using solar energy helps the environment repair the damages that were caused by human created emissions. By using solar panels, you will take a step towards a greener and cleaner Earth in the future.

3. Sustainable And Renewable

The greatest benefit that we can also gain from solar energy is its sustainability. We will be able to use the full capacity of this type of energy for a long time and we don’t have to worry about harmful gas emissions. Aside from this, solar energy is also renewable which means that we won’t run out of this type of energy. People all over the world will be able to keep their homes warm and comfortable. This type of energy can also fuel cars and even heat our water system at home. All these things can be possible with the use of solar energy.

These are just some of the benefits that solar power or energy can give to every single person and home in the world. As you can see, this energy source can help you create a better home and world for the future. So when you get a chance to avail of solar panels, don’t think twice. Create the change you’ve been looking for, starting with yourself.

If you are interested in learning exactly how to generate power and reduce your bill then this is the perfect resource for you!

With the ever increasing costs of living, there is no better time than right now to stop throwing money out the window and start generating our own electricity.

Over the last few years I have figured out how to significantly reduce the cost of solar panels making it more affordable for the average home owner just like you.

Now you can build a single panel or a complete array of panels to power your home for a fraction of retail cost.

I’m going to be your “solar mentor” and show you step-by-step how to make a solar panel. I’ll also teach you my other secrets to renewable energy in an easy to follow format.

Did you know? A basic solar installation from a retailer can take 30 years to pay back and cost you well over $20,000?

This is simply too much for many to afford and the pay back time is far too long. This prompted me to do some research into how the solar panels are created and how I could make them myself.

I soon realized it was possible to make solar panels for MUCH cheaper than retail price, saving me thousands. Moreover, it was actually easier than I thought!

That’s when I decided to develop this guide with my close friend Mark (A solar nut!).

You don’t need to be a builder, anybody can make solar panels. It’s really quite easy to make solar panels once you know a few industry secrets. Plus, our guide is broken down into an easy to follow format that will walk you through step-by-step.

We will provide you with plenty of pictures and diagrams for you to look at but if you still need help, just email us! We are more than happy to answer any questions you have.

After we created our solar panel guide we wanted to know if it was easy enough for the “Average joe” to follow.

We found 43 people (male and female) who were interested in solar but knew nothing about making panels, we gave them our guide and came back in a month to see what they have built.

All 43 of the “solar newbies” were able to create a well polished solar panel that generated enough electricity to run some household appliances!
